Morning Coffee ☕️ God, Hold What I Cannot Know

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.”
Psalm 56:3

Some mornings, fear arrives before anything has actually happened. A small detail catches our attention, and suddenly our minds begin filling in all the empty spaces. What if this means something? What if this has happened before? What if I am missing something? Before long, we are suffering inside a story that has not been proven true.

God does not ask us to pretend that uncertainty feels comfortable. He does not shame us for being afraid. Instead, He invites us to bring the fear to Him before fear becomes the voice deciding what everything means.

There is a difference between what I fear and what I know.

That difference can feel terribly small when anxiety is loud. Fear wants an answer immediately. It wants to investigate, predict, replay, and prepare for every possible outcome. But faith can say, “I do not know what this means yet, and I do not have to manufacture an answer.”

Trusting God does not mean ignoring truth. It means trusting that truth does not depend on our ability to chase it down. If there is something we genuinely need to know, God is capable of bringing it into the light. And if our minds are frightening us with possibilities that are not reality, He is capable of quieting those too.

Today I can leave the unknown unknown.

I can notice something without deciding what it means. I can feel afraid without treating fear as evidence. I can ask questions without demanding immediate answers. And I can choose not to spend an entire day trying to solve tomorrow, yesterday, and every what-if in between.

God, I don’t need You to show me everything today. I need You to keep fear from becoming my storyteller.

Maybe that is today’s surrender: not surrendering the truth, but surrendering the desperate need to know it right now. God already sees what I cannot see. He knows what is true, what is imagined, what is coming, and what has already been. Nothing that matters is hidden from Him.

So today, when the what-ifs begin, I can hand them back one at a time: “God, You hold this one too.” And then I can return to the life that is actually happening in front of me.

Prayer

Father, my mind wants answers because answers feel safer than uncertainty. You know every fear underneath my questions. Help me separate what I know from what I fear. Keep me from writing painful stories in places where I do not yet have truth. If there is something I need to see, give me wisdom and bring it into the light in Your time. If fear is speaking louder than reality, help me recognize it. I give You what I cannot know today. Guard my heart, steady my thoughts, and remind me that I do not have to chase truth because You already hold it. Let me live this day instead of losing it to what-ifs. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

☕ Today’s Coffee Thought

I don’t have to know everything today.
I only have to trust the One who does.
